Airtel 4G LTE-TDD service to be launched in Kolkata first

However, the confirmation of its launch is yet to be done. But the sources say that the Airtel 4G will be launched in Kolkata by the end of April, 2012. The 4G high speed internet is based upon the LTE-TDD technique of the wireless broadband service.
In the 4G spectrum auction, held in the year 2010, Airtel had won the 20 MHz BWA spectrum in the four telecom circles of Punjab, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Kolkata. Bharti Airtel had to pay Rs.3,314.36 crore in the auction.
For the implementation of the Airtel 4G in Kolkata region, the Airtel will collide with the ZTE. However, the towers of Bharti Infratel and Indus Towers will be used by the company for the ultra high speed internet services. Kolkata was the first region in India which was connected through 2G service in India in the year 1995. And with 4G implementation, Kolkata will again become the first region in India to get 4G connectivity. However, various analysts have shared their results of surveys which conclude that at the end of year 2017, 20 million subscribers will get 4G connectivity.
The BWA service providers have the 2.3 GHz spectrum band which is a new frequency band. Hence, the 4G implementation for the Bharti Airtel will be much difficult as the network coverage will be poor (for indoors).
To improve the coverage, the Bharti Airtel will use the small cell sites “namely Femto Cells”. Airtel will use the microwave frequencies and the fiber optics based backhaul providers to spread their 4G network. Airtel will thus launch dongles and tablets for the various Airtel 4G plans in future.
